An army of young exuberant school kids are going to invade theaters this Friday through Pattalam. This is the second production of Lingusaamy’s banner Tirupathi Brothers. A theme woven around school kids and their carefree world full of mischief and fun is seldom explored in mainstream Tamil cinema. The last movie one can recollect on these lines was Kasthuriraja’s Thulluvadho Ilamai, but even that was more grown up than what was expected from a movie featuring school children. However,
Pattalam, from its trailer, promises to be a more genuine look into the world of those who have just about stepped into their teens.
Featuring a host of newcomers along with the experienced Nadiya, the movie revolves around how the correspondent of a school (Nadiya), who also happens to be a psychiatrist, manages to influence a bunch of young school kids and turn the school into a model institution. The newcomers Arun, Kiruba, Sathya, Balaji, Vikas, Suresh, Hari, Vignesh, Guru and Irfan were chosen by debutante director Rohan Krishna after an extensive screening process during which as many as 500 aspirants were scrutinized.
The movie claims to be a very genuine representation of the lives of children in schools and the methods used to harness their potential. Any common man will be able to relate to what happens in the movie.
Rohan Krishan has been an associate of Priyadarshan and Santhosh Sivan. The story of Pattalam has been written by Sheeba Rohan, music has been scored by Jassie Gift (‘Four Students’ fame). Close to the vacation season, let’s see whether Pattalam can re-awaken the school adventure genre.

Ayan Movie Preview
A Waywardly teenager, a youngster and an ageing gentleman – Suriya has done it all in his Vaaranam Aayiram. With an inexhaustible thirst for variety, he is ready for another date with the box office after the critically acclaimed Vaaranam Aayiram. Ayan is touted to be a high energy adrenaline rush experience with Suriya retaining his lately acquired six-pack hinting that there are as much action sequences as much there are romantic ones. And yes, if the promos are to be believed, Suriya drops his shirt flaunting his beefcake appearance.
Ayan has the all-fresh Tamanna playing Suriya’s female lead whose slow and steady rise to stardom is stuff for fairy tales. Ayan will also catapult Tamanna’s status into the big league and as a budding star; this movie is likely to become significant in her career.
And as far as the story goes, we do hear the usual clichés boasting on how the movie is different from the other movies. However, as a step ahead, here, director K V Anand declares that Ayan will rewrite the movie watching experience of Tamil viewers. “Ayan’s theme is completely unexplored in Indian cinema and hence the movie will be an eye-opener of sorts,” Anand was quoted as saying by the media. Besides, Suriya also revealed in a recent press meet that the Censor Board was uncertain in providing the movie’s certificate. All this only add up to the already swelling expectations.
Suriya plays the role of a 25 year old living in the labyrinth called Triplicane. So the requirement obviously demanded him to speak the ‘Chennai Sendamizh’. According to him, director K V Anand’s mastery helped him attain fluency in the dialect.
Originally named Boomathiya Regai, the movie was later rechristened to Ayan, meaning the unbeatable, for want of a crisp title. Ayan is shot in diverse locations including the maze like streets of Triplicane, the lush green forests of Africa & Malaysia and the Skeleton Coast of Namibia. Suriya’s electrifying action sequences are said to be one of the major attractions of the movie. Apart from Kanal Kannan, Franz Spilhaus, a stunt team that worked for many famous Hollywood movies has choreographed the stunt sequences in this film
Ayan also has Akashdeep Saigal debuting in Tamil in a negative role with Prabhu, Vivek and Karunas playing vital roles. Written by K V Anand and the noted writer Subha, Ayan is produced by AVM Productions and distributed by SUN Pictures.
Harris Jayaraj’s music is already topping the charts with footage from the movie being telecast in television channels. The album has 6 songs to its credit.
Ayan is scheduled for release this weekend, April 3, 2009.

Indira Vizha
Life is an exciting drama and all human beings are mere players in the greatest production. Human life allocates value to relationships. Apart from our closest circle of relatives and friends, we get to meet a lot of people in our lives. Among the diverse lot, some remain with us as our friends and due to certain differences, some become our foes. Indira Vizha deals with the consequence of such a tainted and embittered relationship.
Santosh (Sreekanth) is a cheerful young man who works as a programme executive for a local TV channel. Hard-working and full of vigour to grow in the competitive world of entertainment, Santosh is always on the look out for ideas to enrich his presentations. Santosh meets Savithri (Hemamalini), a bright young Law student through one of his innovative programmes titled 'Asadu No. 1'. Working in close association, both of them get to know each other and fall in love. Subsequently, their love gains acceptance from their respective families and soon, the wedding gets finalized. Meanwhile, the channel's owner suddenly decides to transfer the management responsibilities to his wife Kamini (Namitha). Kamini is pretty, wily and adventurous. Soon, she takes charge of the channel's activities and in connection with the same, meets Santosh. The meeting shocks Santosh and Kamini.
In the flashback that follows, Kamini and Santosh are shown as two bubbly youngsters madly in love with each other. When Santosh brings up the matter of an early marriage, Kamini does not concur. Fiercely ambitious, she prefers to settle down in her career well before familial responsibilities envelop her. Disappointed and confused and not knowing how to convince Kamini, Santosh drops his decision and soon, work takes him away from the city; her career distracts Kamini. Thus, both of them drift apart and away from each other.
Cut to the present: Kamini is excited to see Santosh in her domain. His nearness excites her and caught in the daze, she decides to pull Santosh into her web and seduce him. Even knowing that he is engaged and soon to be married, she flirts with him using her position and power and in one vulnerable moment, tries to make a big move on Santosh. Realizing that Kamini is trying to transform the friendship into an extra-marital affair, Santosh tries to wriggle out of her hold. But cunning and result-oriented Kamini chases him and when he continues to put her off, she uses a wicked plan against him. Kamini files a complaint against Santosh for attempting to rape her. The scandal wrecks Santosh's reputation as well as his understanding with Savithri; friends and relatives look down at him. Insulted and hurt, Santosh takes the matter to court. So many twists and turns follow; is Santosh finally able to prove his stand? Does he escape from crafty Kamini's traps? Does his marriage pass the endurance test? How does Savithri react to the whole episode?

Engal Aasan Movie Preview
Behindwoods review board
Starring: Vijayakanth, Vikranth, Seril Brindo, Suja
Direction: Kalaimani
Music: Sabesh Murali
Production: Thangaraj
Captain is back. It's been quite a while since we saw him on screen which is quite understandable because he is a man of many other commitments too. However, Engal Aasan is ready for release, a trifle delayed though.
But it looks as though the delay might end up helping the movie. Engal Aasan is a story based on a big economic scandal where fake documents are fabricated to show issue of loans to people while the money is siphoned off by others. The scam is to the tune of a few crores. Well, if
this reminds you of India’s biggest corporate fraud then don't think that Engal Aasan was made with that in mind.
Vijayakanth plays a bank officer who takes charge in a village office and after a few days starts noticing huge discrepancies in the way funds have been dispensed as loans. He wants to get to the root of the scam. But, the bad elements destroy all evidence that he has and even put him on the wrong side of the management. But Captain does not accept defeat and that is what the movie is all about.
Vikranth (Vijay's cousin), Sheryl Printo and Akshaya are also part of the cast. The film has been directed by Kalaimani with camera handled by A. Venkatesh and Sabesh Murali scoring the music.

Adada Enna Azhagu Movie Preview
Behindwoods review board
Starring: Jai Akash, Nicole, Ashish Vidyarthi, Karunaas, Raguvaran, Reka, Aishwarya
Direction: T.M. Jayamurugan
Music: TM Jaimurugan
Production: Tiruppur M.V. Ramaswamy
Jai Akash has been missing from the scene for quite a while now. One might be forgiven for thinking that he had done the disappearing act. But, he is back with a release. Adada Enna Azhagu is set to hit theaters this Friday. Featuring Jai Akash and debutante Nicole in the lead, the title suggests that the movie will be a love story. While not totally disagreeing with the assumption, director
T.M. Jayamurugan adds that the movie is much more than just an ordinary love story.
The lead character played by Jai Akash is one who holds very lofty principles in life. He follows Periyar’s doctrine of philosophy wherein any wealth accumulated beyond one’s basic needs should be given away to the less privileged. The director has also quoted an incident from the life of the revolutionary communist leader Stalin who did not hesitate to sacrifice his son’s life for the sake of his country; the hero of the film will exhibit such high levels of patriotism.
With such credentials, the hero ought to be the ‘perfect man’ and a story involving such a character cannot be just a love story. The director said that the movie shows how two people with very similar tastes in music meet each other and become friends which later blossoms into love. Their love meets with zero resistance from all sides and all seems to be well and rosy until a misunderstanding threatens to do them apart.
Adada Enna Azhagu has been produced by Tiruppur M.V. Ramaswamy on behalf of Alipiri Movies. Music for the film has been scored by the director himself who has also taken care of the lyrics. Adada Enna Azhagu raises hopes of a good love story with social consciousness.

The wait should be finally over. Kuselan, directed by P Vasu starring Superstar Rajnikanth is all set to hit cinema halls.
This film is a remake of Malayalam movie Kathaparayumpol. Jointly produced by K Balachander of Kavithalaya and M P Vijayakumara of Seven Arts, it is also being released in Telugu as Kathanayakadu.
The movie has been the talk of the town what with the biggest marquee names in Kollywood are figuring in it. Grand, style and slickness are the words being associated with the movie, not talking about the fresh looks of Rajini.
Kuselan, to be released with maximum number of prints have Nayanthara, Pasupathy, Meena and Vadivelu in imporant roles. The film's music is already a big draw. G V Prakash has managed to combine his tehno virtuosity to match the mass expectations of Rajni fans.
Rajni fans, after the disappointment of Baba, were more than satisfied with what they got in Chandramukhi. And now, with the same P Vasu is directing the Kuselan, their expectations are even more high.

Sathyam Movie Preview
For the first time, Vishal is donning the role of a cop in Sathyam. Interestingly, the bilingual film would be the first direct Telugu venture for Vishal, who so far tested Andhra waters with dubbing movies alone. In Telugu, it has been titled as Salute and shooting is progressing briskly.
Stating that the film will be sleek and stylish, Vishal said, ‘the film has all necessary commercial elements, which will be liked by one and all. I am very much expecting the release’
On the sudden makeover in the career by donning the role of a top cop, Vishal said, ‘though director Rajasekhar approached me with the script two years ago, I couldn't do it, as I wanted to become more matured. However, me and mybrother Vikram Krishna understood that it is not a run-of-the-millpolice film. It is quiet different and will surely appease my fans.’
‘Have you done any specail workouts to fit into the role?’ When asked, Vishal said, ‘yes. I have done rigorous workouts to resemble a fit police officer. I am spending most of the time in gym nowadays to give that tough guy feel to the audience.
Says director Rajasekar, ‘Vishal is simply superb in the role of a police officer. About 70 per cent of the shoot were over so far. The film's major assets are music by Harris Jayaraj (his 25th film) and graphic works by famed Hollywood technician who worked for Matrix and Krishh.’ Produced by GK Films, the film has Nayantara opposite Vishal.

What started as a mere rumour that choreographer Raju Sundaram is directing Ajith was later officially confirmed. Then started the title guess and it was buzzed that the film has been named Aegan, which refers to Lord Shiva, which in turn means the one and only powerful God. And this too was confirmed with the shoot is now going on in a brisk phase.
According to sources, the film is loosely based on Hindi blockbuster Main Hoon Na. Nayantara, whose on screen presence with Ajith in Billa created waves is once again joining hands with ‘Thala’ in Aegan.
Navdeep, who has acted in Arindhum Ariyamalum is doing the role of Ajith’s brother in the movie. Says Raju Sundaram, ‘the role of Ajit in the film is such a powerful one. He fights for justice and establishes his supremacy. That’s why the title Aegan.’
The movie is being produced by Ayngaran International and some important portions of the movie including the introduction shot of Ajith was shot in Hong Kong. The film is expected be a real treat for die-hard Ajith fans.

The sudden death of cinematographer - director Jeeva during the shoot of Dham Dhoom in Russia has not halted the project. Instead, the post production works of the film is now going on in a full swing, thanks to Jeeva’s wife Anees and his mentor PC Sreeram.

Lakshmi Rai says, ‘I can’t forget Dham Dhoom in my career. It is such an interesting script which has ample importance to my role. Surely the film is going to be one of the important films for me.’

Vallamai Thaaraayo Movie Preview
For director Madhumitha, her maiden venture Vallaimai Tharaiyo would raise the eyebrows of many, thus making her to hog the limelight.
Says she, ‘the film with Parthiban and Chaya Singh in the lead portrays the pains and challenges of women. Unlike others who had earlier told same kind of stories, we tried to throw light on women’s plight in a commercial way. The film would surely work with the audience.’
Says Chaya Singh, ‘I had to take a break in Tamil since offer continously knocked my doors from Kannada and Bhojpuri industries. Vallamai Tharaiyo is the right movie to mark my comeback. I am happy that I had worked with an experienced actor-director like Parthiban.’
Meanwhile, Madhumitha has said offers from Kollywood and Tollwood are coming her way. ‘Cinema is my passion. And I am here to stay. I will decide on my next film soon. It may be either in Tamil or in Telugu. Because veteran producers from both the industries have approached me.’
Again talking about her maiden venture, the filmmaker said, ‘Censor Board officials highly appreciated me after watching Vallamai Tharaiyo. The film would surely work with the audience.’
